Detention, demurrage, Per Diem and storage charges

What is demurrage? 
Demurrage is the charge applicable, after the free time expires, from discharge date until empty return at port terminal or nominated by MSC local inland depot.  

What is Per Diem? 
Per Diem is the charge applicable, after the free time expires, for the use of the carrier’s container (full or empty) outside the marine terminal, rail ramp or container yard.   

What are storage charges? 
A storage charge is applicable, after the free time expires, for containers left inside the POL/POD terminal. 

SOLAS VGM information for Belarus

 What is VGM?
Verified Gross Mass or VGM refers to the exact, verified weight of a packed container. For safety reasons, vessel operators can only load a container if its weight has been verified. 

In line with SOLAS (Safety of Lives at Sea) regulations, all marine terminals are now allowed to use their certified scales to record Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of shipments.  

How can I submit my VGM instructions? 
- myMSC (Free of Charge)  
- EDI (via INTTRA)  
- Manually (via INTTRA)  
- Email: BY535-export@msc.com (note: the email will only be monitored for VGM declarations) 

Guidelines for submitting your VGM instructions 
Shipper - Verified Gross Mass (VGM) must be received before vessel cut-off in POL.  

MSC admin fees and costs  
- Manual VGM Submission Fee (applies in form of official letter or weighting act from Shipper/FWD): 30 EURO per container.  
- VGM Misdeclaration Fee: as per POL/POD, transshipment ports tariffs. 

Prohibited cargo

- Used tyres 
- Designated ozone-depleting substances (ODS) 
- Certain hazardous wastes and pesticides 
- Special fishing tools 
- Harp seal products 
- Certain arms and ammunition 
- Printed and audiovisual material threatening the political and economic interests of the member states of the Customs Union and their citizens 

Though the above items are the only ones prohibited, there are a number of goods that are heavily restricted. For more information, see the links below.

- Radioactive or hazardous materials 
- Plant or plant products - unless permitted

Pesaje de contenedores (VGM)

Todas las oficinas locales del MSC disponen de básculas certificadas para registrar y verificar el peso de los contenedores (masa bruta verificada o VGM) de acuerdo con la normativa de Seguridad de la Vida Humana en el Mar (SOLAS). Las instrucciones VGM son obligatorias para todos los envíos por razones de seguridad. Los operadores de los buques solo pueden cargar contenedores para los que se haya verificado su peso.
