MSC Raises the SDG Flag for a Sustainable Future

25/09/2023

MSC Sustainability team raising SDG Flag

At MSC, we firmly believe that addressing the world's most pressing challenges requires collective action. That's why we are pleased to join in celebrating SDG Flag Day on 25 September, the date when 193 United Nations Member States adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015.

SDG Flag Day is an opportunity for MSC to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the 2030 Agenda on sustainable development and to making a positive impact on people and our planet.

However, as we celebrate this occasion, we also recognize that addressing global challenges requires concerted, coordinated action – now, more than ever.

A pivotal halfway mark and a critical moment
Soberingly, we are at a pivotal halfway mark to a key SDG date – 2030 – when the SDGs need to be achieved. However, according to the SDG Stocktake report published by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and Accenture, the world is facing a stark reality: 85% of all SDG indicators are off track, and none of the SDGs are on track to be achieved by 2030.

At this critical moment business must take tangible actions to accelerate progress, with companies collaborating across and beyond sectors to find the sustainable solutions the world needs - in line with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

" MSC’s commitment to advancing the sustainable development agenda is rooted across all areas of our business. We support all of the SDGs, with the aim of making a transformative impact. Global companies like ours have a critical role to play in accelerating action on the SDGs, working together with others and driving progress towards our shared future. "

Joining forces for the global goals
As a signatory of the UN Global Compact - including active participation in the UNGC Ocean Stewardship Coalition and Maritime Just Transition Task Force - and as a Board Member of the Global Compact Network for Switzerland and Lichtenstein, we know that collaboration is key to delivering our sustainability roadmap. In addition to pooling complementary knowledge, technical expertise and resources as well as sharing risk, we see our partnerships as an opportunity to raise ambitions and align towards a common vision.

At MSC, we pledge to play our part in this collective effort to create a more sustainable future. Join us in raising the SDG Flag for a better world.
