Detention, demurrage, Per Diem and storage charges
What is Demurrage /Detention?
(Import) In Hamad demurrage /detention is the charge applicable, after the free time expires from the date of discharge of the container till the empty is returned to carriers facility .Gate pass is issued with valid date for client to pick the cargo from terminal .Customer cannot pick the container with an expired Gate Pass .To extend the validity it is mandatory for client to settle demurrage and validate GP till the date client wishes to clear and return the empty. To serve client better MSc Qatar introduced the online transfer system in October 2020 and client can directly arrange the bank transfer in MSC QATAR account.
What is Port Storage?
(Import) Port storage is the charge applicable, after the free time expires, for the use of the carrier’s container (full or empty) inside the marine terminal. (Discharge from vessel till gate out from terminal)
Such charges are payable by consignee directly with terminal and MSC as a carrier is not involved.
What is Detention?
(Export) Detention is the charge applicable, after the free time expires from the date of empty release till laden unit is delivered to marine terminals cy facility.

What is Port Storage?
(Export) Port storage is the charge applicable, after the free time expires, for the use of the carrier’s container (full or empty) inside the marine terminal (Gate in to load full /empty)
In case of export MSC as carrier bills the customer as per ports tariff.

SOLAS VGM information
What is VGM?
Verified Gross Mass or VGM refers to the exact, verified weight of a packed container. For safety reasons, vessel operators can only load a container if its weight has been verified.
In line with SOLAS (Safety of Lives at Sea) regulations, marine terminal in Hamad is allowing to use their certified scales to record Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of shipments. If found any discrepancy while inspection container will be moved to CCIA (Customs container inspection area) and customer will be forced to remove the excess cargo.
What do I need to include in my VGM instructions?
You must include the following on all VGM instructions:
· Booking or Bill of Lading (BL) number
· Container number
· VGM + weight measurement unit (lbs. or kgs.)
· Responsible Party Name
· Signature of the authorized signatory
How can I submit my VGM instructions?
• VGM (cargo gross weight + cntr tare weight) in MYMSC.COM – SOLAS VGM option
· EDI (via INTTRA)
· Manually (via email ) /tender customers not using MYMSC.COM
