MSC, one of the world’s largest container shipping and logistics company, is honored to be crowned “Shipping Company of the Year” at Seatrade Maritime Awards 2023. This prestigious accolade recognizes MSC for its outstanding response in keeping worldwide trade moving amid global and industry challenges, the company’s commitment and achievements in supply chain decarbonisation, and its significant role in leading digitalization for the industry in the past year. In 2020, MSC clinched the esteemed “Ship of the Year” award for its 23,000+ TEU MSC FEBE, thanks to the vessel’s state-of-the-art features from energy efficiency and adoption of new technology to safety and security.
Optimizing Supply Chains and Customer Experience with Record Breaking New Fleet and Enhanced Network
In the past year, the world experienced global economic downturn and ongoing industry challenges including exceptional market conditions, operational constraints and consequential impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite such unprecedented times, MSC continued to maintain a strong position across its cargo business, minimized disruptions to clients’ supply chains and optimized their customer experience.
To invest in the business and modernize its fleet, MSC launched its new record breaking 24,000+ TEU Celestino Maresca class vessels in July 2023 - the biggest and most fuel-efficient containerships by design. Through ongoing revamps and upgrades to our trade services, the company continued to provide its customers with comprehensive global coverage, connecting their business with the world's trade centres. In October 2022 and June 2023 for example, MSC expanded and enhanced its Intra-Asia network to provide new direct connections, improved transit-time and increased capacity.
Advancing the Industry Through Digitalization and Sustainability
On the digitalization front, as a founding member of the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), MSC has in February 2023, committed to transition to 100% use of electronic Bills of Lading (eBLs) by 2030. This milestone represents a significant step forward for MSC, its customers and the industry. Meanwhile, in line with its commitment to net zero decarbonization of its fleet by 2050, MSC prepared a range of robust measures to ensure compliance with the latest IMO regulations. This includes a new voyage optimization programme rolled out earlier this year, pursuing a range of alternative fuel solutions as well as modernizing its fleet through the industry- leading new building programme.
Celebrating the Win and Remaining Committed to Doing Even Better
“MSC is extremely honored to be awarded as Shipping Company of the year. This is all thanks to our customers for their unwavering support, government authorities and partners for their trust and collaboration, as well as our MSC people for their dedication and hard work. Especially in challenging times such as the past year, this award is a great recognition of our MSC strategies and innovation in keeping global trade moving. As we celebrate this win, we remain committed to doing even better years to come,” said Jonathan Zhu, Managing Director of MSC Greater China, who represented MSC in receiving the award at the ceremony in Shanghai, China, on 10 November.
