Dear Customers,
Maersk has informed MSC that a number of containers were impacted when its container ship SEROJA LIMA encountered heavy weather in the Atlantic, en route from Suez to New York.
The SEROJA LIMA was carrying cargo for MSC customers as part of our America service. We have been in touch with those customers already identified as having cargo in these specific containers.
As a result of the incident, the vessel was diverted to Freeport, Bahamas, where salvors are now assessing the affected area in order to prepare a safe discharge plan for the impacted boxes.
Maersk expects the operation to be complicated, including the use of special equipment and the application of additional safety measures for handling the impacted containers. Realistically, given the safety precautions, the discharge may take some time and the vessel’s departure date from Freeport is not yet confirmed.
MSC very much regrets any inconvenience arising from this incident and will do the utmost to assist MSC customers to try to ensure the matter is handled as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
We will communicate again in due course as soon as we have updated information to pass on to you from the vessel operator, while we wait for the results of the surveys currently ongoing.
In the meantime, please contact your usual MSC representative with any specific questions.
