MSC is pleased to speak at the Greentech in Shipping Global Forum, where participants from industry and government will meet to discuss ways to cooperate and find solutions to the most urgent environmental issues and exchange best practices.
Bud Darr, Executive Vice President for Maritime Policy and Government Affairs at MSC Group, will make a presentation entitled “A Shipowner’s Perspective - How to anticipate and cope with a rapidly changing regulatory landscape” at the event, which takes place in Hamburg on 26-27 February. His talk is on Tuesday, 26 February at 14:10 CET.
International shipping is subject to increasing regulation to help minimise greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the use of low-Sulphur fuels. Among the most important and imminent developments is the new global 0.5% limit for Sulphur content in fuel, which comes into force on 1 January 2020. Significant regional changes impacting shipowners include the Baltic Special Area under MARPOL Annex IV with effect from January 1, 2019, and the Baltic and North Seas becoming NOx Emission Control Areas (NECAs) with effect from January 1, 2021.
Bud will draw on decades of experience as a global maritime leader in public policy, government and industry as well as his current perspective from working at MSC Group, which has a container ship fleet of 510 vessels, as well as 15 cruise ships. Bud is engaged across MSC’s Cargo and Passenger divisions and is closely involved in the company’s response to developments in environmental public policy and regulation and other industry-wide issues such as carbon reduction, maritime security, safety at sea, illegal wildlife trafficking and international shipping policy.
