Successful Celebration of MSC MERAVIGLIA

The city which was chosen to host this extraordinary moment in the MSC journey was Le Havre.  It was a poignant tribute to the city which was itself celebrating its 500th anniversary and boasts a proud maritime heritage.

More than 2,000 guests descended on the Port; they had travelled from far and wide to witness this spectacular christening.  MSC Cruises key business partners, travel agencies, global media, authorities, and representatives from MSC Cargo were all there to see this magnificent and meticulously planned event.

Acclaimed comedian, Gad Elmaleh, hosted the celebration as the official Master of Ceremonies.  Mr. Elmaleh stylishly directed proceedings with wit and charm which set the scene for an enjoyable evening.  

The audience welcomed speeches from MSC's senior management as well as STX France, the proud shipbuilder, and the Major of Le Havre M. Luc Lemonnier. 

In his speech, Mr Pierfrancesco Vago took the opportunity to unveil four new vessels, the MSC 'World Class' series, which will feature LNG engines and cater for up to 7,000 guests at any one time. Crucially, the announcement demonstrated MSC's continued commitment to the French yard and was an endorsement of their superior engineering, artistry, and craft.

After the speeches, it was time for the entertainment; 'Kids United' performed two songs, which prompted the young Aponte and Aponte-Vago children to get up on stage and dance along with other youngsters from local schools.   Then renowned French performer Patrick Bruel made his entrance as the warm-up act to the main event. It certainly wasn't long before all the guests were dancing in the isles.

As you would expect, the highlight of the evening went to Ms. Sophia Loren, the Godmother of the MSC Cruises fleet. Making her entrance a little after 2230hrs, Ms. Loren exuded glamour and elegance as only she can.   With one swift cut of the ribbon, the bottle smashed against the side of the ship's bow to rapturous applause. 

Sensational fireworks rounded-off the perfect evening, and an unforgettable moment for the MSC family around the world.
