MSC Statement on MSC Rachele Incident

We confirm an incident occurred on 21 June in the engine room of the MSC RACHELE (Voyage: IX218R), deployed on our Indus 2 service, while the ship was en route from Naples, Italy to Fos-sur-Mer, France. The vessel has been towed to Fos-sur-Mer, France, where the condition of the ship will be assessed.

Three seafarers were injured in the incident and have been evacuated by helicopters for medical care. MSC is very grateful to the French Navy for their prompt assistance.

Protecting our seafarers and ensuring their safety and well-being is our top priority, and we have comprehensive health protection measures and safety protocols across our fleet of ships. We are fully committed to continue striving for safer operations.

Our preliminary reports indicate that there has been no damage to the containers onboard. We have informed affected customers with cargo onboard about the vessel incident and will keep them updated about the future movements of the vessel and its cargo.

MSC is following closely the situation, and regrets any inconvenience caused by this incident.
