Following the 4 August Beirut port warehouse explosion MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is following the situation closely, in close contact with local management in the region.
MSC extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected and we are grateful to report that our staff are currently able to work remotely from home and that no MSC vessel was in the port at the time of the explosion.
Due to the incident, calls at Beirut Container Terminal in Lebanon are currently being omitted. To ensure business continuity MSC has implemented contingency arrangements for cargo due to be loaded/discharged in Beirut until normal operations resume. These arrangements include alternative port calls (such as Gioia Tauro, Tekirdag, Mersin, Piraeus) and alternative loading and discharge operations.
MSC is in close contact with the terminal operator to understand the extent of any damage to the infrastructure and equipment and when the terminal will be operational again.
We will update customers on any changes to the schedule related to MSC services as a result of these contingency arrangements.
