Why Choose MSC for Project Cargo Services
Transporting project cargo starts with understanding the requirements. That’s why our team will always have a detailed discussion with you before we start working on your bespoke project cargo solution. This ensures we fully understand the needs of your shipment before work begins.

Unique Breakbulk Solutions
On board vessels, we store your cargo on a pre-prepared bed containing multiple flat racks, providing a safe working environment for stevedores and ensuring compliance with IMO CSS Code Annex 13 requirements. As part of our feasibility studies and preparation, we use 3D modelling to demonstrate handling stowage and lashing requirements.
Our team also focuses on loss and claim prevention for very large and/or heavy cargo, ensuring a safe and smooth delivery.

Out of Gauge Cargo
If your cargo does not fit a standard container, we will carefully load and secure (lash) it onto a platform, single flat rack or open top unit. Our experts will work with you to create a tailor-made solution for a safe and secure delivery. We have access to specialised equipment and handling facilities such as container lift trailers, floating cranes and cargo securing solutions.
Our project cargo solutions go beyond shipping: we also offer door-to-door deliveries by road, rail and barge.

Additional Local Solutions
In some countries, we offer additional solutions such as loading, lashing and securing cargo at your origin port or nearby depot. We can also arrange inland collection and deliveries using a variety of equipment, as well as police/inland transport notifications. Stevedoring, port lashing and port storage facilities can also be provided if required. Contact us to find out whether these options are available in your country or region.
Our experts help with the planning and execution of special loadings, ensuring maximum safety and security for each and every project.

Questions about Project Cargo?
When is Project Cargo Needed?
Project cargo is typically associated with large scale construction and maintenance projects, including oil and gas, mining, wind, and solar projects. All these industries require large, heavy, or complex pieces of machinery or equipment, which must be delivered on time and undamaged to prevent delays with the overall project.
While project cargo is frequently associated with shipping oversized or over dimensional cargo, it’s also about ensuring that all risks, delays, and potential problems are mitigated as far as possible. That’s where working with a dedicated project cargo partner like MSC can make a significant difference. We understand the requirements of planning and executing project cargo and out of gauge shipments, and our attention to detail enables us to deliver flexible, bespoke solutions for our customers.
What are the Different Types of Project Cargo Transportation?
There are various ways to transport oversized cargo, depending on the commodity. The main forms of transportation generally include trucks, cranes, railways, planes, and of course shipments.
Because of how it is used, project cargo tends to have a specific timeframe or delivery date, meaning that it’s crucial to work with a shipping company like MSC who understand how to organize detailed, complicated logistics solutions.
How does MSC Handle my Breakbulk Shipment?
Throughout our project cargo solution, we break each process down into smaller pieces. This way each step is meticulously designed to ensure the safe and timely delivery of your cargo. For each project, our experts will advise you on the most ideal lashings and crating. We will also ensure that any required inland transportation has been organised and follows all guidelines and safety measures.
We also understand the importance of great coordination throughout your project cargo shipment to avoid unnecessary delays. Along with our global port coverage, we will work closely with the port to make sure the right equipment is available to unload the cargo and reload correctly onboard the vessel.
